Mujeres: Es Un Dolor Inexplicable – Weekly Album Pick Y26/W14

New album by the Catalan trio, the seventh in their 20-year career and the fourth since their successful switch to Spanish on Un Sentimiento Importante (2017), a work that defined the two lives of the group. A brief record, 10 songs in 33 minutes, where they balance their most urgent and punk side with pop of almost classic overtones.

The overwhelming beginning of the album, which corresponds to side A of the vinyl, emphasizes their more accelerated version and their ability to create anthems naturally. Five songs — the three tracks that served as previews plus “Un Golpe” and “Cristales” — to continue exploiting the garage and surf–rock formula that they dominate like no one else in the country. A raw and direct energy that links them with international references such as Black Lips, Thee Oh Sees or Crystal Stilts.

On side B, time to take a breath. Yago, Arnau and Pol put on that 21st-century Los Brincos suit that fits them so well and explore their pop facet. Masters of melancholic euphoria, they continue taking advantage of that virtue of theirs of talking about love with an almost comic lack of shame and without fear of big words (“Canción de Amor”). And, above all, making use of that distinctive and anachronistic idiolect that floods their lyrics, common asset of the band and their followers.

I read somewhere (sorry for not giving credit) that the world is divided into two sides: those who are fans of Mujeres and those who have never been to one of their concerts. Soon they will begin the presentation tour across Spain, so choose your side and start doing cardio (and drags) to survive the concert.
